Tom Hamer

Tom was admitted to the practice of law in Ontario in 1979.

Tom practices family law and wills/estates law. Since 2005 Tom has restricted his family law practice to the resolution of family law conflict by negotiation, preferably but not exclusively utilizing the Collaborative Practice process.

Tom is a member of the Board of Directors of Collaborative Practice Durham Region, as well as a Board member of the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation (OCLF). Tom also belongs to Collaborative Practice Toronto (CPT) and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP).

Tom completed the Collaborative Practice Training program “Train the Trainers” sponsored by the OCLF in 2009 and has trained lawyers, financial professionals and family professionals from across Ontario in the fundamentals of Collaborative Practice. He has also taught in the Paralegal Program at the School of Justice at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario.

Tom completed mediation training in 2008.

In February, 2010 Tom was appointed as a Dispute Resolution Officer in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Oshawa.

While his children were growing, Tom was involved in coaching rep ringette and house league hockey. He has Level II Coaching certification. Today he enjoys playing hockey, gardening and travel, good wine and gourmet cooking.
